Songbook Sunday at The Athenaeum

Following audience feedback, The Apex’s Songbook Sundays have a new home for 2017 - this popular series of Sunday jazz events will now take place in the regal setting of The Athenaeum’s ballroom! Songbook Sundays will continue to feature the Chris Ingham Trio, alongside special guest singers from the world of jazz.

VIP Tickets for Songbook Sundays are £19.50 (and include a reserved table & unlimited choice from the brunch buffet). Standard Tickets are £10 in advance / £12 on the door (if available) - and don’t include brunch or a reserved table, though both are available on the day subject to availability.

Songbook Sundays run from 11.30am-1.30pm on occasional Sundays - see below for details…

Tammy Weis: The Music of Julie London

Born in Canada and London-based, Tammy is an established songwriter and was nominated as Best Jazz Vocalist in 2010. For February’s Songbook Sunday, she applies her celebrated intimate singing to the songs associated with “the girl with the come hither voice”, Julie London.

Jessica Radcliffe: The Harold Arlen Songbook

“Real depth of emotion…” - The Hoste of Jazz

A saxophone alumnus of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Jessica graduated from Trinity with a First in 2014 and has since established herself in London as an in-demand jazz singer at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and St James Studio.

For March’s Songbook Sunday, she interprets the sophisticated, bluesy songs of one of the great American composers, Harold Arlen.

Joan Viskant: The Songs of Peggy Lee

With fans ranging from Michael Parkinson to William Shatner, Joan has released CDs featured as Album of the Week on BBC Radio 2 and Jazz FM.

Recently seen with Pete Long’s Rhythm Kitchen specialising in 1940s and 1950s swing, for April’s Songbook Sunday she visits the Peggy Lee Songbook.
